A souvenir gift which is handmade, from moldano and painted with museum patina. <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"western\"><em><strong><span lang=\"en-US\">Parthenon-Acropolis<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<p><em><strong><span lang=\"en-US\">The Parthenon is a temple, built in honor of the goddess Athena, protector of the city of Athens.And to this day\u00a0 is the brightest monument of the Athenian golden age,and one of the wonders of the world.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>When Athens was the greatest cultural center of its time, <a href=\"https:\/\/greekart-souvenirs.gr\/en\/product\/pericles\/\">Pericles<\/a>\u00a0initiated an ambitious building project that lasted the entire second half of the century. The most important buildings visible on the Acropolis today \u2013 the Parthenon, the\u00a0Propylaia, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekart-souvenirs.gr\/en\/product\/erechtheion-candleholder\/\">Erechtheion<\/a>\u00a0and the temple of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/greekart-souvenirs.gr\/en\/product\/niki-of-samothraki\/\">Athena Nike<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 were erected during this period. The Parthenon was built under the general supervision of the artist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phidias\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phidias<\/a>, who also had charge of the sculptural decoration. The architects\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ictinos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ictinos<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Callicrates\u00a0began their work in 447 BC, and the building was substantially completed by 432. However, work on the decorations continued until at least 431.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"background-color: #d5d5d5;\">T<\/span>he only piece of sculpture from the Parthenon known to be from the hand of Phidias,was the statue of Athena housed in the naos. This massive(golden-ivory ) chryselephantine sculpture is now lost and known only from copies, vase painting, gems, literary descriptions and coins. The Parthenon is regarded as the finest example of Greek architecture. the most perfect Doric temple ever built. Even in antiquity, its architectural refinements were legendary.\u00a0 That is the reason why it is considered as one of the wonders of the world. Defeating the Persians at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ancient.eu\/marathon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marathon<\/a>\u00a0in 490 BCE, at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ancient.eu\/Salamis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salamis<\/a>\u00a0in 480 BCE, and at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ancient.eu\/Plataea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plataea<\/a> in 479 BCE, the Parthenon was symbolic of the superiority of Greek culture against &#8216;barbarian&#8217; foreign forces. This conflict between order and chaos was symbolised in particular by the sculptures on the metopes running around the exterior of the temple. 32 along the long sides and 14 on each of the short.
