Gods of Olympus In ancient Greek religion and mythology<\/a>, are the major deities of the Greek\u00a0pantheon .\u00a0 Commonly considered to be Zeus<\/a>,\u00a0Hera,\u00a0Poseidon,\u00a0Demeter,\u00a0Athena,\u00a0Apollo,\u00a0Artemis,\u00a0Ares,\u00a0Hephaestus<\/a>,\u00a0Aphrodite,\u00a0Hermes, and either\u00a0Hestia\u00a0or\u00a0Dionysus.\u00a0 <\/sup>They were called\u00a0Olympians\u00a0because, according to tradition, they resided on\u00a0Mount Olympus.Although\u00a0Hades\u00a0was a major ancient Greek god and was the brother of the first generation of Olympians (Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia), his realm was the\u00a0underworld.<\/a>\u00a0 Far from Olympus, and thus was not usually considered to be one of the Olympians.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

GODS OF OLYMPUS<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n

The Olympians were a race of\u00a0deities, primarily consisting of a third and fourth generation of immortal beings.\u00a0 Worshipped as the principal gods of the Greek pantheon\u00a0and so named because of their residency atop\u00a0Mount Olympus. They gained their supremacy in a ten-year-long\u00a0war of gods .\u00a0 In which Zeus led his siblings to victory over the previous generation of ruling gods, the Titans<\/a>. They were a family of gods, the most important consisting of the first generation of Olympians, offspring of the Titans\u00a0Cronus\u00a0and\u00a0Rhea:\u00a0Zeus,\u00a0Poseidon,\u00a0Hera,\u00a0Demeter\u00a0and\u00a0Hes<\/a>tia, along with the principal offspring of Zeus:\u00a0Athena<\/a>,\u00a0Apollo<\/a>,\u00a0Artemis,\u00a0Ares,\u00a0Aphrodite,<\/sup>\u00a0Hephaestus,\u00a0Hermes, and\u00a0Dionysus.\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The 12 gods of Mount Olympus were the most important deities in ancient Greece\u00a0and in this collection we examine each one in detail. With their all-too-human qualities, the Olympian gods were capable of displaying great kindness and dishing out terrible punishments. They argued amongst themselves, had love affairs, and protected their favourite mortals down on earth but each had a more serious role to play in the\u00a0Greek\u00a0view of the world and so they represented important ideals and features of the human condition such as justice, loyalty, wisdom, beautiful\u00a0music\u00a0and the changing of the seasons<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
