The hearth was essential for warmth, food preparation, and the completion of sacrificial offerings to deities.\u00a0 She was also offered the first and last libations of wine at feasts.\u00a0 <sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>Her own sacrificial animal was a domestic pig. <sup id=\"cite_ref-8\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0Pausanias\u00a0writes that the\u00a0Eleans\u00a0sacrifice first to Hestia and then to other gods.\u00a0Xenophon\u00a0in\u00a0Cyropaedia\u00a0wrote that\u00a0Cyrus the Great\u00a0sacrificed first to Hestia, then to sovereign Zeus, and then to any other god that the\u00a0magi\u00a0suggested<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The accidental or negligent extinction of a domestic hearth-fire represented a failure of domestic and religious care for the family.\u00a0 \u00a0 Failure to maintain Hestia&#8217;s public fire in her temple or shrine was a breach of duty to the broad community.\u00a0 A hearth fire might be deliberately, ritually extinguished at need.\u00a0 And its lighting or relighting should be accompanied by rituals of completion, purification, and renewal.\u00a0 Comparable with the rituals and connotations of an eternal flame\u00a0and of\u00a0sanctuary lamps. At the level of the\u00a0polis, the hearths of Greek\u00a0colonies\u00a0and their mother cities were allied and sanctified through Hestia&#8217;s cult.\u00a0Athenaeus, in the\u00a0Deipnosophistae, writes that in\u00a0Naucratis\u00a0the people dined in the\u00a0Prytaneion\u00a0on the natal day of Hestia Prytanitis<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Quality: .Made of cast copper resin, which allows greater detail and a nice weight.
