The helmets were originally made of animal skins, and in the process evolved into bronze and often had a horsetail at the top. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-US\">Over the years, the designs changed.The <a href=\"https:\/\/greekart-souvenirs.gr\/en\/product\/spartan-warrior8746\/\">warriors<\/a> who returned victorious from the battlefields, showed their gratitude to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zeus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Z<\/a>eus by offering their weapons (the so-called medals). That is the reason that ,at some particular temples of gods,archaeologists found a lot\u00a0 of weaponry.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-US\">The spartan battle helmet appears for the first time in the 7th century b.c..\u00a0 IT is known to this day as the pre-eminently ancient greek war helmet.\u00a0 It was widely spread beyond the geographical borders of ancient Greece<\/span><\/strong><strong><span lang=\"en-US\">. The art of its construction required great skill, as the helmets of <a href=\"https:\/\/greekart-souvenirs.gr\/en\/product\/bust-of-alexander\/\">kings<\/a>, generals, were decorated with various representations, and had a rich horse mane.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\">Clothing, arms, helmet and armor<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The Spartans used the same typical\u00a0<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hoplite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>hoplite<\/i><\/a><\/strong><strong> equipment as their other Greek neighbors; The Spartan Helmet,the shield(HPLON).\u00a0 The only distinctive Spartan features were the crimson tunic (<\/strong><strong><i>chit\u014dn<\/i><\/strong><strong>) and cloak (<\/strong><strong><i>himation<\/i><\/strong><strong>). As well as long hair, which the Spartans retained to a far later date than most Greeks. To the Spartans, long hair kept its older Archaic meaning as the symbol of a free man.\u00a0 To the other Greeks, by the 5<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong>\u00a0century, the hairstyle&#8217;s peculiar association with the Spartans had come to signify pro-Spartan sympathies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The letter\u00a0<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lambda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>lambda<\/i><\/a><\/strong><strong>\u00a0(\u039b), standing for\u00a0Laconia\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lacedaemon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lacedaemon<\/a>, which was painted on the Spartans&#8217;\u00a0shields, was first adopted in 420s BC and quickly became a widely known Spartan symbol. \u00a0Military families passed on their shields to each generation as family heirlooms. The Spartan shields&#8217; technical evolution and design evolved from\u00a0bashing\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shield_wall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shield wall<\/a> tactics.
