All Veronese figurines are beautifully packaged, have great detail and are great collectible gifts<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><em><strong><span id=\"In_myth_and_poetry\" class=\"mw-headline\">Charon-Thanatos in myth and poetry<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<p><em><strong>The\u00a0Greek\u00a0poet\u00a0Hesiod\u00a0established in his\u00a0<a title=\"Theogony\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theogony\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Theogony<\/a>\u00a0that Th\u00e1natos is a son of\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Nyx (mythology)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nyx_(mythology)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyx<\/a>\u00a0(Night) and\u00a0Erebos\u00a0(Darkness) and twin of\u00a0Hypnos\u00a0(Sleep). <a title=\"Homer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Homer\">Homer<\/a>\u00a0also confirmed Hypnos and Thanatos as twin brothers in his epic poem, the\u00a0<a title=\"Iliad\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iliad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iliad.<\/a>\u00a0 Where they were charged by <a title=\"Zeus\" href=\"https:\/\/greekart-souvenirs.gr\/en\/product\/god-dias8752\/\">Zeus<\/a>\u00a0via\u00a0<a title=\"Apollo\" href=\"https:\/\/greekart-souvenirs.gr\/en\/product\/statue-of-apollo\/\">Apollo<\/a>\u00a0with the swift delivery of the slain hero\u00a0Sarpedon\u00a0to his homeland of\u00a0Lycia.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Counted among Thanatos&#8217; siblings were other negative personifications such as\u00a0Geras\u00a0(Old Age),\u00a0Oizys\u00a0(Suffering),\u00a0Moros\u00a0(Doom),\u00a0Apate\u00a0(Deception),\u00a0Momus\u00a0(Blame),\u00a0Eris\u00a0(Strife),\u00a0Nemesis (Retribution) .\u00a0 Thanatos was loosely associated with the three Moirai\u00a0(for Hesiod, also daughters of Night), particularly\u00a0Atropos, who was a goddess of death in her own right. He is also occasionally specified as being exclusive to peaceful death, while the bloodthirsty\u00a0Keres\u00a0embodied violent death. His duties as a\u00a0<a title=\"Psychopomp\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Psychopomp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guide of the Dead<\/a>\u00a0were sometimes superseded by\u00a0Hermes\u00a0Psychopompos. Conversely, Thanatos may have originated as a mere aspect of Hermes before later becoming distinct from him.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h4><em><strong>Charon-Thanatos<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<p><em><strong>Thanatos was thus regarded as merciless and indiscriminate, hated by \u2013 and hateful towards \u2014 mortals and gods alike. But in myths which feature him, Thanatos could occasionally be outwitted.\u00a0 A feat that the sly King Sisyphus\u00a0of\u00a0Korinth\u00a0twice accomplished. When it came time for Sisyphus to die, Zeus ordered Thanatos to chain Sisyphus up in\u00a0<a title=\"Tartarus\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tartarus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tartarus<\/a>. Sisyphus cheated death by tricking Thanatos into his own shackles.\u00a0 Thereby preventing the demise of any mortal while Thanatos was so enchained.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Eventually\u00a0<a title=\"Ares\" href=\"https:\/\/greekart-souvenirs.gr\/en\/product\/god-aris\/\">Ares<\/a>, the bloodthirsty god of war, grew frustrated.\u00a0 With the battles he incited, since neither side could suffer any casualties. He released Thanatos and handed his captor over to the god. Sisyphus would evade Death a second time by convincing Persephone\u00a0to allow him to return to his wife stating that she never gave him a proper funeral.
